Held over one and a half days on 2 to 3 July, the virtual conference gathers industry experts for discussions on how businesses can adapt in the times of Covid-19
Faced with a volatile global market, the NTUC Job Security Council (JSC) has teamed up with Human Capital Singapore (HSC) for the first-of-its-kind virtual conference. Starting from 2 July, more than 40 panellists come together to discuss how companies in Singapore can build more resilience by up-skilling, re-skilling and repurposing jobs.
The NTUC JSC was set up during the pandemic to aid companies with hiring sufficient manpower and retaining skilled workers. The first to join the council was Singapore Bakery and Confectionery Trade Association, fresh off the successful launch of the Baker 4.0 initiative last July alongside the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i). Since then, the initiative has identified skill gaps and more avenues for aspiring bakeries to get the support they need.
As the masses stayed in during the Circuit Breaker, the transport sector saw a sharp decline in revenue and self-employed taxi drivers were struggling to cover their expenses. To this, JSC worked with the National Taxi Association and Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU) to connect drivers with food outlets such as KFC and Pizza Hut. Up to 90 taxi drivers partnered with 36 outlets, with the former easing delivery needs and gaining a new business opportunity at the same time.
It is collaborative efforts like this that the JSC aims to help alleviate manpower constraints in small businesses and corporations. Finding innovative solutions will be at the heart of the National & Job Security Conference with a closer look at emerging sectors, SMEs and logistics-supply chain sectors. Panel discussions will explore the use of cloud kitchens for F&B businesses, artificial intelligence (AI) for manufacturing and the online economy.
