Find out how a local Indian restaurant, Kurry Korner adopts new technologies to increase productivity.

It is worth noting the corpus of Indian cuisine is incredibly vast, and often involve a melange of spices and flavours. One such business specialising in Indian cuisine is Awesome Annam Pte Ltd, better known under the brand of Kurry Korner, is a local restaurant that serves up authentic and flavourful Indian dishes.

Established in 2013, Kurry Korner first started as a humble kiosk in Sentosa Island. Not one to rest on their laurels, the brand has since blossomed and expanded other outlets islandwide in Singapore, such as Changi Business Park, Suntec City and River Valley Road. Nonetheless, the company continues to strive for the better by improving operations in the workspace and better cater to customer demand.

With the support of NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i), Kurry Korner invested in a comprehensive Outlet Management System, boosting the overall process in the workplace. Previously, customer’s orders were manually scribbled on paper by the older workers, which proved tedious and resulted in missing or duplicate orders. With the new online ordering application, this reduces incidents of wrong orders being delivered or miscommunication between workers due to illegible handwriting. Under minimal supervision, this lightens the workload on the older workers and allows for food to be delivered to customers more quickly.

Other initiatives were primed to improve the processes of delivery and catering orders. Data can now be managed and updated automatically in the system, which streamlines the overall ordering processes as older workers no longer need to access the data from paper records or Excel.

Overall, compared to previous operations, the introduction of automation has helped to raise productivity and contribute to a more conducive workplace environment for workers. With the cost savings from these job design initiatives, the company rewarded five of its older workers with a pay raise.
