From Passion to Business

Established in 1998, Baker’s Oven Patisseries is one of the leading wholesale manufacturer and business-to-business (B2B) distributor of bakery products in Singapore. Founded single-handedly by Mr Jason Ng, Baker’s Oven specialises in the production of pastries and desserts, including seasonal items such as mooncakes, Chinese New Year goodies and Christmas log cakes. Mr Ng’s interest in baking has developed since young and he started out by helping at his family bakery shop. “Passion is a big part of my success as a baker, and it motivated me to overcome all obstacles that came my way,” he added.

To ensure the quality of its products, Baker’s Oven has adopted the frozen technology to extend the shelf life of its products. Foreseeing the need to ensure that work processes are efficient and optimised, Baker’s Oven has invested in and installed fully automated equipment from Europe. With the introduction of full automation in the workplace, Baker’s Oven can better meet the needs of both the local and overseas markets. Looking forward, Baker’s Oven would like to venture into the business-to-customer (B2C) and online markets and replicate their success in the B2B arena.

Baker’s Oven is popular for its signature puff pastry range, such as Chicken Pie, Curry Puff and Tuna Puff. Being one of the first few manufacturers to produce puff pastries using fully automated equipment, the consistency in the quality of the pastries is maintained. Not one to rest on its laurels, Baker’s Oven continues to keep track of the key trends in the consumer market to develop innovative products that will appeal to customers.

However, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has brought upon unprecedented challenges for the business. Nonetheless, the business is prepared to adapt to the changes and continue to seek out new opportunities. To cope with the impact of COVID-19, Baker’s Oven has introduced a special menu for COVID-19 and delivery services to better cater to customers during this special period. The company is also looking to hire more local employees as circuit breaker measures loosen. As the food and beverages industry in Singapore continues to evolve rapidly, there is a need to address employees’ skills gap. In the near future, Baker’s Oven hopes to work with NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) to send its employees for relevant training, such as the upgrading of the relevant skills including but not limited to, food preparation, safety and sanitation, and the use of equipment.
